Shelley Thompson

I am a lifelong creative from New Zealand, developed my passion for knitting and sewing through lessons from my family and taught myself to crochet as a teenager. After relocating to Queensland in the 1980s, I became a founding member of the Sunshine Coast Craft Cooperative and dedicated myself to teaching various crafts to unemployed youth. My involvement in markets and fundraising events has been significant, and in 2020, I co-founded a dachshund rescue, where I serve as secretary. My craft journey continued with attendance at the Crochet Guild Australia's inaugural teacher training, which led me to teach at a yarn shop, offering classes for various skill levels. Recently, I became a vendor at the REKO Mt Cotton farmers market and led workshops at the CGA conference, receiving positive feedback, though I declined an invitation to teach at this year's conference due to travel issues.

In addition to crafting endeavours, I have expanded my presence online with a website and a Facebook page. My experiences in the craft community have been diverse and enriching, marked by collaborations and teaching opportunities that have allowed me to share my skills and passion with others. My continued involvement in both local and broader craft networks reflects my commitment to fostering creativity and community connections, even as I balance these activities with my work in animal rescue.
