Although I have always loved art and studied art and weaving at secondary school and college, it wasn’t until I retired 8 years ago that I started painting classes in mixed media. The many and varied aspects of mixed media now stand me in good stead as I construct and decorate papier maché lanterns. I also eco and botanically print new and upcycled fabrics and clothing. My interest is in using the shapes and inherent dyes and tannins of leaves and plants to make prints and designs.
I only started ecoprinting during the 2020 lockdown after attending a workshop in 2019. Covid lockdowns were a perfect opportunity to work on my skills. It was in early 2021 that I decided to sell my works at markets and I joined Scattered Arts around the same time.
I enjoy the challenge of the limited palette of ecoprinting and botanical dyes. It is an imprecise craft so you are never quite sure if the result will be as you imagined it. Having started to market and sell my works, I am always thrilled that something I have made brings joy to someone else.
