Lisa Porter

I have loved creating and making things all my life, starting when I was only 5 or 6, cutting up boxes to make furniture for my dollsand building Airfix car models with my older brother. When I got older, I went on to study art at college, followed by a degree in Textile Design.
I chose not to follow a ‘creative career’ but instead spent the last 30 + years working in various art galleries and museums in the UK, and here in Australia, passing on my love of art and culture to others through exhibitions and public programs.
When I retired, I decided it was time to go back to making my own creations again. After making a miniature kit bought as a Christmas present, I became completely obsessed with making miniature scenes and dioramas of my own, using found items, scraps, paper and wood – everything from a tiny ice cream parlour to a carpenter’s workshop and an artist studio, complete with furniture and tiny accessories. The models were 1:12 scale, around the size of half a shoe box; some even had working lights. All the models were unique, based on my own ideas, but I also made models on request for family and friends. After giving dozens away, I was persuaded to consider that people might actually like to buy my creations….and so, as they say, the ‘rest is history’ and ‘Little Wonders by Lisa’ was born!
