Don Jones

My work embodies the philosophy of slow woodworking, where making becomes a mindful dialogue between hands, heart, and material.

I am a Queensland-based woodworker and antique furniture restorer whose creative practice weaves together craftsmanship, sustainability, and quiet reflection. With a lifelong love of timber and traditional finishes, I create pieces that honour the natural beauty and character of wood — from beeswax and plant-based polishes to reclaimed and restored furniture. My work embodies the philosophy of slow woodworking, where making becomes a mindful dialogue between hands, heart, and material. Alongside my workshop practice, I write on the themes of craftsmanship, care, and creative expression with wood as part of pastoral care with youth. Under the banner Wisdom from the Woodshop, I share reflections on mastery and the gentle art of making, including my published book, It Is Going to Take as Long as It Takes – Towards Mastery.
